CloudSigma Offers Black Lotus DDoS Mitigation to Cloud Hosting Customers
According to a report from the SANS Institute (PDF), nearly 40 percent of enterprises are unprepared for DDoS attacks, which flood a target website or service with phoney server requests, making it difficult for legitimate users to get through. Attacks can be waged by corporate competitors or ideological groups to disrupt or censor specific servers. Attacks whether short or prolonged can have a detrimental impact on organizations and result in lost revenue for businesses.Black Lotus provides hands on protection to manage attacks and it can be customized to suit specific environments, as opposed to one size fits all, automated DDoS mitigation offerings."Our partnership with Black Lotus enhances our existing core infrastructure DDoS protection with a more user focused, customizable service," CloudSigma CEO Robert Jenkins said in a statement. "It will also complement our firewall policies for greater security in general, giving our customers a more seamless, protected experience in our cloud."According to research from Incapsula presented at a WHIR webinar next week, DDoS attacks are on the rise with 240 percent growth from 2013 to 2014, and are growing in size with over a third of all attacks exceeding 20 Gbps.Sony and tech news website The Register have been among the recent online properties to fall victim to DDoS attacks. Notable DDoS attacks have also targeted web hosting providers including Linode, New Zealand ISP Spark, and Australian ISP Cirrus Communications.Subscribe to WHIR Newsletters Get Our Exclusive Report on "The Hosting Infrastructure Ecosystem".Partnerships between a hosting provider and a third party security provider, like in the case of CloudSigma and Black Lotus, are not uncommon. For instance, SingleHop recently launched its Enterprise On Demand Technology Partner Program which allows its enterprise customers to use Alert Logic and Radware security as part of their SingleHop hosting.by David Hamilton on Friday, January 31 2014The Distributed Denial of Service landscape is significantly changing, according to the January threat report (PDF) from DDoS mitigation provider Black Lotus. EvoSwitch Facility Ups Energy Savings Rate to 50 Percent
As a result, the data center has increased its energy savings from 40 to 50 percent when compared to a conventional data center. The announcement comes just a couple months after the EvoSwitch signing of the EU Code of Conduct on Data Centres Energy Efficiency, in which it became one of a few European data centers that pledged to reduce their energy consumption by 20 percent by the year 2020. started with a PUE of 1.8 in early 2007. One year ago, the PUE was 1.6. We now have a PUE of 1.5, but we will continue to invest in further energy savings. This is critical to EvoSwitch and to our customers, since the negative impact on the environment caused by the data center sector should be kept to an absolute minimum. In addition, energy prices will rise, and we want to be able to keep our energy bills, and those of our customers, at an affordable level. uses much of its energy savings to finance its current and new investments in green technologies.
DC Character To Exit The Closet
DiDio specifically states at the panel that the character whose orientation is shifting will not be a new character (such as Bunker from the TEEN TITANS relaunch) but will be "one of our most prominent gay characters". Since then, stories across the Internet and the media have continued to promote this. Some Internet rumors have swirled around the Tim Drake incarnation of Robin for years (seriously, Google it); that incarnation is currently on TEEN TITANS alongside Bunker. It perhaps does say something that such announcements still garner so much attention in the industry, although it also is a time when American society is far more accepting of open homosexuals than ever.
DC Entertainment and THE CW have released their first official footage for "ARROW", the TV series based on Green Arrow which is hitting the network this fall. The full trailer covers the basics of the premise; Oliver Queen returning from being stranded on a deserted isle with amazing archery skills and a desire to clean up his corrupted city. Green Arrow was often derided as being an imitation of Batman, and back in the 50′s he was very much so; this series may do little to change that. It also appears that Queen may not wear a mask or go by the mantle of Green Arrow on the show itself, which seems a little daft since that is the entire hook. The rest of the cast are: Colin Donnell as Tommy, Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance (the potential Black Canary), David Ramsey as John Diggle, Willa Holland as Thea Queen, with Susanna Thompson as Moira Queen and Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance. "SMALLVILLE" ended on THE CW after ten seasons as THE most profitable TV show Warner Brothers ever produced, and thus "ARROW" has high expectations. DeMatteis and Kevin Maguire.

Relatives of Katharina Brow are making it known that they are not happy about never having been contacted by the producers of Conviction, the new movie which centers around the effort to free a man wrongly convicted of murdering Brow. Katharina children, Melrose and Charles, held a press conference Thursday with attorney Gloria Allred.
One of their main concerns is what will be done with the profits from Conviction. They would like some of that money to be put towards the effort to solve this cold case and finally put Katharina Brow real killer behind bars for good.
Conviction centers on Betty Anne Waters, played by Hillary Swank, who, as a single mother managed to put herself through law school in order to advocate for her brother, Kenny Waters, who was convicted of the murder. Betty Anne used DNA evidence to prove that her brother could not have committed the crime, and he was released after spending 18 years in prison.
One can only imagine how heartbreaking it must have been for Katharina Brow family and friends to suddenly learn that their beloved killer was still at large, and justice had not been served after all.
The qualms of Katharina Brow family seem legitimate, but it not certain they doing themselves any favors by hiring Gloria Allred. She can get them publicity for sure, but is herself seen increasingly as a someone who will take on any frivolous cause just to get in front of a news camera. She recently represented one of Tiger Woods former mistresses looking to play up her victim hood for as much money or celebrity she could milk it for. The Brow family are much more sympathetic, but still it unclear if there actually some sort of lawsuit in the works, or if this is just a publicity move.
Digital Payments to Reach
The report released on Monday, called Digital Payment Strategies: Online, Mobile Contactless 2014 2019, finds that the largest net increase in spend will occur through remote physical goods purchases.
While there is organic growth in terms of overall transaction levels due to purchasing on tablets and mobile, a significant portion of shoppers have simply traded their computer or laptop for a tablet.
For hosting providers, the growth in ecommerce is significant in terms of coming up with expansion strategies, ensuring compliance is met in different geographies, and awareness of alternate digital payments, including bitcoin. Web hosts are increasingly looking at strategic partnerships to offer customers flexible ecommerce platforms. Recently, for example, GoDaddy partnered with Spree Commerce, an open source ecommerce platform, as the basis for its ecommerce solution for SMB customers.
Establishing strategies for mobile commerce, or m commerce, is also significant for hosting providers, particularly as for the first time ever, combined transactions on mobile and tablets will exceed those on desktops and laptops this year.

Asia is one area of notable growth, with emerging markets like China and ecommerce retailers like Alibaba, in particular, accounting for 20 percent of global business to consumer e retail in 2013. This is especially significant as Alibaba plots its US IPO, which is expected to raise up to $15 billion.
According to a report last year by Forrester, the US, China, Japan, South Korea and the UK were among the top countries poised for ecommerce expansion in the coming years. While the growth of China’s ecommerce market relies heavily on the success of the government in "restructuring economic wealth policies," the growing population and increase in disposable income will help China catch up to the US.
CloudFlare Expands Global CDN Footprint Through Equinix Data Centers
Web content acceleration and security company CloudFlare has significantly expanded its points of presence in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific through a partnership with interconnection and data center provider Equinix.
The new deal between Equinix and CloudFlare more than doubles CloudFlare’s footprint within Equinix’s data centers, and also takes advantage of its cloud partner and customer ecosystem.
The expansion of its global presence boosts the performance of its cloud based content delivery network to serve its growing customer base, and deal with an increase in the traffic passing through its network, which jumped 400 percent in the past year.
Having servers in close proximity to its worldwide customers, which number more than 1.5 million, helps increase performance at different locations and reduce latency. Fully 95 percent of the world’s population is now geographically located 10 milliseconds of latency away from the closest CloudFlare data center.
The Equinix data centers also increases CloudFlare’s capacity for mitigating Distributed Denial of Service attacks by more effectively absorbing and dispersing the massive volumes of traffic associated with large scale DDoS attacks, which are becoming increasingly common.

Earlier in the year, CloudFlare announced plans to increase it network including locations in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and parts of Asia where it currently lacks coverage. CloudFlare’s largest markets in order of size are the US, China and Brazil.
And it seems that global expansion is necessary in its mission to "build a better Internet," which has included its Project Galileo initiative, which is designed to protect political and artistically important sites from DDoS attacks which impact individuals’ ability to express themselves freely.
With a network of more than 100 data centers, Equinix provides data centers to more than 450 cloud service providers. It has been a data center partner in the international expansion of New York based cloud hosting provider Digital Ocean, which opened its new London data center at an Equinix facility earlier this week.

In stage, movies and television they rely on visual gestures, nuances of not only the character but also with lighting, background scenes and props etc. to create the mood. The voice talent must create the full range and depth of the character by throwing themselves completely into essence of the character and make them come alive with just his or her voice. If you were to see a taping of the narration, you would likely see the actor entire body in motion as he/she relays the story.
A great story deserves great voice talents! No where is this more evident than the sales of audio books, particularly pulp fiction stories, in the last several years. The resurgence of stories from the golden age of pulp fiction from the early 1920s, have exploded onto the internet and as in old time radio, the theater of the mind has caught up with modern technology and publishers are finding a new audience.
One such publisher, Press has recreated Stories from the Golden Age which contains 153 stories written by L. Ron Hubbard during the 1930s to the 1950s in genres ranging from Science Fiction and Fantasy, Mystery to Thriller, to Air and Sea Adventures and Westerns using his own and fifteen pen names. The print versions include the pulp fiction artwork that originally accompanied the story in the magazine publications. In addition, each title offers a full cast, unabridged audio theatrical presentation complete with cinema quality theme music and sound effects.
The voice talents include veteran actors such as Jim Meskimen, best known for his roll in Apollo 13 and the Grinch, Martin Kove, The Karate Kid and Rambo, Emmy and Tony award winning Charles Durning, Nancy Cartwright best known for her character Bart Simpson, and the list goes on. P. Lovecraft, Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, L. Ron Hubbard, Issac Asimov, Ernest Hemmingway to name a few. material for many of the best story lines and characters we have seen to date.
While television and movies are likely to remain a staple in entertainment, the story telling in audio books with great voice over talents, have gained in popularity due to lifestyle changes of a very busy population. The long commutes to work can now become an adventure, the endless household chores less tiresome or storytelling bringing the family together are just a few of the ways voice talents continue to entertain us.
